UL Research Institutes, UL Standards & Engagement, and UL Solutions presented the first UL Enterprise Safety Science Award during the 24th annual Chicago Innovation Awards on Nov. 13 in Chicago.

Under the premise that safety is the ultimate innovation, the award celebrates breakthroughs that embed safety into every idea, product, and solution — highlighting those who advance progress while making the world a safer place.

Chicago-based healthcare technology company Prenosis earned the inaugural UL Enterprise Safety Science Award for its Sepsis ImmunoScore, an FDA-authorized tool that uses artificial intelligence and biological data to help doctors spot a patient’s sepsis risk sooner. Instead of relying only on symptoms, the system analyzes biomarkers and gives clinicians a clear risk score. That insight helps identify patients most likely to develop sepsis within 24 hours — a critical window for treatment.

“When safety and science are treated as the backbone of sustainable innovation, real breakthroughs are possible. When we recognize innovators and companies that prioritize safety, we can transform industries, protect lives, and help make the world a safer place for all,” said Kristen Delphos, vice president of communications and public affairs for ULRI. Delphos presented the award to the Prenosis team during the ceremony.
