As part of ACS Energy Letters' annual celebration of the contributions of women scientists, Dr. Judy Jeevarajan, vice president and executive director of the Electrochemical Safety Research Institute (ESRI) at UL Research Institutes, shared some details about her career path — including certifying the first lithium-ion battery used for human-rated space flight while she was a research scientist at NASA — as well as other interesting discoveries and advice for those who are just entering the field. The ESRI team also recently published a paper, Battery Hazards for Large Energy Storage Systems, in this journal from the American Chemical Society.
