Innovation for Impact

2024 Impact Report

Harnessing the promise of technological advancement for a safer world

Anthropogenic chemicals with unknown side effects. Large language models that may help hackers commit cybercrimes. Green — and blue — hydrogen.

You’re not alone if you feel the world is changing so much and so quickly that you’re not even certain what the issues are, let alone the solutions.

That’s where we come in. At UL Research Institutes, we work to identify, understand, and mitigate safety issues in today’s technologies and tomorrow’s scientific innovations. We call it safety science, and we’ve wielded it for 130 years to bring safety to everyday life through science. We’ve expanded and scaled up during the last few years to live our commitment to tackling the world’s most urgent challenges — in sustainable energy, chemical exposure, and digital technologies, among a host of other areas.

Watch our 2024 video Impact Report to learn how we’re addressing the alphabet soup of challenges that constitutes modern life to build a safer, more secure world.
