Dr. Stuart R. Miller Selected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry

Dr. Stuart R. Miller, vice president and executive director of the Materials Discovery Research Institute (MDRI), has been named a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) for his contributions to chemistry.

Dr. Stuart Miller“I am deeply honored by this recognition of my work as a professional chemist,” said Miller, a longtime materials scientist. “My research focus has been on materials science from the discovery through to the commercialization of materials, which I believe is a vital branch of chemistry that has a significant role to play in the resolution of today’s urgent safety and sustainability challenges.”

Royal Society of ChemistryAs the world’s oldest chemistry society, the U.K.-based RSC is a highly regarded professional international organization well known for its advancement and publication of chemical knowledge. An RSC fellowship is an honor conferred upon scientists in positions of senior responsibility who have made outstanding contributions to the chemical sciences.

Throughout his career, Miller has contributed far-reaching innovation to the field. He joined UL Research Institutes as MDRI’s inaugural executive director in mid-2022 to lead the research center’s efforts to develop and deploy novel materials that will help resolve global resilience and sustainability issues.

He had previously worked in various capacities at Honeywell UOP for more than 10 years, most recently as a senior manager and principal scientist for Honeywell UOP’s Energy Storage Group. Miller holds 32 active U.S. patents and has published two dozen scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals.
