New Way to Measure Two-Dimensional Heat Flux

HFITS Two Dimensional Heat Flux Hero - UL Research Institutes

The original method to measure heat flux involves using a thin-skin calorimeter sensor. However, this device is limited to measurements at a single physical location, leaving gaps to measure heat flux on the two-dimensional level.

A new method, denoted Heat Flux using Infrared Thermography over Surfaces (HFITS), has been developed to measure the thermal exposure from a heat source, such as a fire or hot object, to a target location.

This study dives into method development, the details of HFITS, and results from a validation experiment.
