Suzanne M. Rivera

President and Professor of Public Affairs, Macalester College

Dr. Suzanne Rivera is president of Macalester College in Minnesota as well as a professor of public affairs.

A national expert in research ethics and science policy, Rivera has published numerous journal articles and book chapters exploring bioethical issues and co-edited the book “Specimen Science,” published by MIT Press in 2017. Her research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Research Integrity, and the Cleveland Foundation.

Before joining Macalester, Rivera served as vice president for research and technology management at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Ohio and as a faculty member in the Departments of Bioethics and Pediatrics at the CWRU School of Medicine. She earned her Ph.D. in public affairs from the University of Texas at Dallas.

Rivera holds numerous civic and municipal leadership roles. Her many professional appointments include membership on the Association of American Universities Advisory Committee for Evaluating Effective and Equitable Teaching at Research Universities and the boards of the Science Museum of Minnesota and College Possible.
