Elisabeth Heggelund Tørstad, elected to the ULRI Board of Trustees in 2020, has served as a member of the Audit Committee and was appointed Chair of the Governance & Compensation Committee in spring 2024. Ms. Tørstad also currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of our affiliate, UL Solutions.

Since 2019, Ms. Tørstad has been the CEO of Asplan Viak AS, a Norwegian professional services firm operating in the architecture, property development, and public infrastructure field. The company aims to contribute to the development of a sustainable society and takes an active role in research, public outreach, and knowledge sharing, as well as development of new regulations and methodologies. Ms. Tørstad is also a Board member of Torvald Klaveness, Aker Solutions, and The Peace Research Institute Oslo.

Prior to entering leadership positions, Ms. Tørstad worked at DNV for six years on projects related to materials technology and deepwater technology. She also has three years of experience in research work at the University of Oslo and another three years of experience in construction and civil engineering early in her career.

Ms. Tørstad holds a Cand Scient degree in Structural Physics from the University of Oslo (1994). She also holds degrees in civil engineering from Oslo Ingeniørhøyskole (1985) and in business administration from Norwegian School of Management (1986). She has studied organizational psychology at the University of Bergen and attended business and leadership studies at IMD, INSEAD, and Berkeley Haas School of Business (UCal).
