Bruce C. Garrett

Retired Director of the Chemical Sciences, Geosciences, and Biosciences Division in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Basic Energy Sciences

Dr. Bruce C. Garrett is retired director of the Chemical Sciences, Geosciences, and Biosciences Division in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Basic Energy Sciences (BES).

Garrett, who specializes in computational and theoretical chemistry, has extensive fundamental research experience and a body of research publications that has been cited more than 20,000 times. Before joining BES, Garrett worked for 27 years at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) based in Washington state, where he was responsible for the planning and performance of PNNL’s fundamental chemical sciences research efforts. He had previously served as co-founder and lead scientist at Chemical Dynamics Corp., a now defunct contract research organization that performed computational chemistry research for various federal government agencies.

Garrett earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. He has been named a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Physical Society.
