UL Research Institutes Welcomes CPSC Action on E-Mobility Device Safety

UL Research Institutes, a leading independent safety science organization, welcomes the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) guidance to manufacturers, retailers, importers, and distributors of micromobility devices to comply with established UL safety standards. The application of safety science research, development of consensus standards and independent, third-party certification to those standards remain among the best tools available to help mitigate potential hazards across new and legacy technologies.

At UL Research Institutes, we work to characterize, understand, and mitigate the risks of current and emerging technologies as they affect public safety. In addition, we provide educational resources to multiple stakeholders including, for example, the fire services who respond to the related fires and explosions that have occurred with micromobility devices.

Our groundbreaking research in fire safety, battery safety and other relevant focus areas proceeds in parallel with the transformative commercial work of UL Solutions and helps inform the public safety standards and policies developed by UL Standards & Engagement. Together, we are all advancing safety science for the greater good.

UL Research Institutes, as well as UL Standards & Engagement and UL Solutions, support CPSC’s efforts, such as this guidance on micromobility devices, to safeguard consumers. With a shared mission of working for a safer world, our three organizations are committed to ongoing research, standards, and testing and certification work to help mitigate related fire, explosion, and other risks associated with micromobility device innovations.
