Fire Safety Academy Offers New Wildland Urban Interface Course

Wildland urban interface (WUI) fires are complex fires that require both wildland and structural firefighting resources.

The new online course, Structure Triage Considerations for Wildland Urban Interface Firefighting, is available for free on the Fire Safety Academy. This course, developed by the Fire Safety Research Institute, part of UL Research Institutes, teaches both wildland and structural firefighters about wildland urban interface (WUI) fire behavior, fuels, and considerations.

As wildfires become more frequent and extend into the built environment, it is increasingly important for firefighters to know how to assess which structures are defensible, which pose undue risks to crews, and how to allocate limited resources effectively under extreme conditions.
