UL Research Institutes’ Fire Safety research experts have released a technical report examining the January 2021 warehouse fire near miss involving the Chula Vista Fire Department.

As part of the Fire Incident Analysis project, this report uses fire modeling, water distribution demonstrations, and on-scene documentation to better understand how fuel load, ventilation, and suppression tactics shaped interior conditions during the incident.

Developed alongside the department’s Serious Incident Review Team, the report provides a clear, science-based account of the event and offers practical recommendations to strengthen firefighter safety and improve operations in commercial structures.
