The National Fire Protection Association has sponsored Fire Prevention Week™ — the longest-running public health observance in the United States — since 1922. Officially recognized in 1925 by President Calvin Coolidge, FPW is a cornerstone of national fire safety education — mobilizing educators, fire departments, and communities to minimize fire-related injuries and fatalities through public outreach.

Focusing on the safer use of lithium-ion batteries through emphasizing the importance of proper purchasing, charging, handling, and recycling of battery-powered products, this year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.”

The Fire Safety Research Institute’s public education safety campaign, “Take C.H.A.R.G.E. of Battery Safety,” highlights exactly what you can do to utilize lithium-ion batteries more safely. We’re expanding our toolkits and resources for this year’s FPW in hopes of enabling the public to take charge of battery safety.
