International Battery Safety Workshop (IBSW)

Interested in participating in the IBSW 2026?

UL Research Institutes’ Electrochemical Safety Research Institute will host the 5th International Battery Safety Workshop (IBSW), a premier event dedicated to advancing safety across diverse battery technologies, in Houston, TX on March 2-4, 2026.

The IBSW serves as a collaborative platform for sharing knowledge and fostering global cooperation to drive the development of safer, more sustainable energy solutions. This edition of the workshop is set to bring together experts from academia and industry alongside researchers from UL Research Institutes’ Electrochemical Safety Research team to explore new insights and pathways to increase the safety of future energy storage systems.

The workshop offers an excellent opportunity for interactions, networking, and encouraging the exchange of ideas through talks and poster presentations delivered by international experts in the battery safety industry.

The IBSW series is supported by a dedicated group of enthusiastic battery experts who form the IBSW executive committee and advisory board. Together, they advocate for a sustainable approach to improve the safety of energy storage solutions. For each workshop, the IBSW organizing committee and advisory board select an industry leader or institution in battery safety to host and lead the event. The Electrochemical Safety Research Institute has been selected to host the 2026 edition.
