Solve With Science With Xplorlabs at NSTA 2026

The Institute for Research Experiences & Education will participate in the National Science Teaching Association’s National Conference on Science Education 2026, taking place April 15-18 in Anaheim, California.

The Xplorlabs team will attend the conference to connect with educators and share safety science–focused resources, workshops, and presentations designed to support classroom learning.

You can find Xplorlabs at Booth #477 near the NSTA Café.

Thursday, April 16

8:30-9 a.m.: Teacher Fellows Bring Real-World Science to Classrooms
– Xplorlabs educator fellows share how they engage students with authentic safety science and real-world learning experiences.
Location: Anaheim Marriott, Grand Ballroom J/K

1-2 p.m.: Thermodynamics in the Science of Fire Safety
– Join the discussion on the science of fire-safe spaces. Leave inspired to consider how students can design safer environments and make informed fire safety decisions grounded in safety science.

Friday, April 17

8-9 a.m.: Action-Oriented Pedagogies: The Ripple Effect of Student Action & Community Impact
– Educators share insights into how Action-Oriented Pedagogies support community action and students’ cognitive, behavioral, and socioemotional growth.

10:40-11:40 a.m.: Extending STEM Learning with Action-Oriented Pedagogies and Xplorlabs Resources
– Explore resources that support student application of science and engineering skills, and strategies that extend learning beyond the classroom to address local safety and sustainability challenges.

12-1 p.m.: Designing Safer Batteries: An Engineering Challenge on Thermal Runaway
– This poster session showcases how students act as safety engineers by designing and testing battery enclosures that manage thermal energy and prevent thermal runaway.

2:40-3:40 p.m.: Why Safety Science Matters: Free Resources for STEM Classrooms
– Join this speed-sharing session highlighting free safety science resources for STEM classrooms, alongside other community science tools aligned with NGSS standards and practices.

2:40-3:40 p.m.: Digital Resources to Support Action-Oriented Pedagogies for Climate Learning
– Learn about Action-Oriented Pedagogies and gain access to recently launched digital resources that support the bridging of students’ academic learning and skills development with real-world climate action to bring about more just and sustainable futures.

2:40-4:40 p.m.: Applying Student Learning & Amplifying Student Voice with Action-Oriented Pedagogies
– A discussion on the foundations of Action-Oriented Pedagogies, tools for community-based student action, and strategies to amplify student voice in learning spaces.
