Advanced Automotive Battery Conference (AABC)
The Electrochemical Safety Research Institute (ESRI) researchers will share research knowledge and insights at the Advanced Automotive Battery Conference (AABC) in Las Vegas on Dec. 10. Join us!
Dr. Byoungchul Kwon, research scientist, ESRI, will speak in a moderated session on the topic, "Fire Suppression of Lithium-ion Battery Fires" at 1:45 p.m. PST. The presentation will examine effective fire suppression methods for electric vehicle (EV) battery fires, highlighting strategies, technologies, and challenges in ensuring safety and minimizing risks in EV applications.
Dr. Vallabha Rao Rikka, research scientist, ESRI, will speak on the topic, "Advanced Lithium-ion Battery Fast Charging: Enhancing Performance, Longevity, and Safety for Electric Vehicles" at 4:55 p.m. PST. Range anxiety in EV owners can be mitigated by increasing driving range or reducing lithium-ion battery charging time. ESRI's research developed an optimal fast-charging method that utilizes full energy density in 15 minutes by mitigating lithium plating and transition metal dissolution at 100% SOC. This approach doubled the cycle life compared to conventional protocols. The study introduces a lithium-ion battery charging protocol offering longer driving ranges, quicker charging times, and the potential for safer EV battery packs.
