The future of safe and resilient industrial systems depends on a deeper understanding of risk, innovation, and the evolving technologies transforming the energy landscape.

Judy Jeevarajan, Ph.D., vice president and distinguished scientific advisor for UL Research Institutes, will join global leaders from industry, academia, government, and research organizations to address safety considerations and emerging risks in the energy sector at the Safety & Risk Assessment Conference 2026 taking place October 20-22 in Houston, Texas.

On Thursday, Oct. 22, at 8 a.m., Judy will give a plenary talk on ” Safety Challenges with Large Lithium-ion Batteries,” sharing insights on the emerging safety challenges with the deployment and operation of large lithium-ion batteries across the industrial and energy sectors. Throughout the conference, connect with members with ULRI’s Electrochemical Safety Research Institute at the exhibit table to learn more about ongoing research advancing the safety of energy storage technologies and other emerging systems.

The conference, hosted by the Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center, brings together attendees of the 29th MKO Process Safety Symposium, the 81st Instrumentation & Automation Symposium, and the 5th Ocean Energy Safety Symposium, to foster collaboration and advance the science of risk assessment and safety across the energy industry ecosystem.
