2026 Energy Storage Symposium

Members of UL Research Institutes’ Electrochemical Safety Research Institute will join researchers, innovators, and technology leaders at the 2026 Energy Storage Symposium, taking place March 10–12, 2026, in Raleigh, NC. 

The team will present posters on March 10 at 4:00 p.m. EST (3:00 p.m. CT) as part of the Energy Storage I session:  

  • Vinay Premnath, director of safety research, “Characterization of particulate and gaseous emissions from thermal runaway of sodium-ion cells.” 
  • Dhevathi Kannan, Ph.D., research scientist, “Characterizing the safety of commercial sodium-ion batteries.” 
  • Byoungchul Kwon, Ph.D., research scientist, “Thermal Runaway of Portable Lithium-ion Batteries and Fire Suppression in an Aircraft Cargo Compartment.” 

These posters will present the team’s latest findings in battery safety and innovation, offering insights into the science behind developing safer, more reliable battery systems.
