Revealing the Risks
Like all transformational technologies, applications of digital intelligence can create unintended consequences. Algorithms that learn from human decisions can replicate bias and discrimination in their own decision making. Systems that aggregate huge stores of data, including sensitive personal information, can introduce profound risks to privacy. At the most basic level, even best practices for assembly, validation, and curation of data remain to be agreed upon by those who create, utilize, or are impacted by decision-making technologies.
These threats can pose challenges to human safety and well-being at both the individual and societal levels. It is critical that we understand and address them now, so that digital intelligence delivers the greatest possible benefit to humanity and leaves no one behind. DISRI is working urgently toward that goal.
