Online shopping is very prevalent and trendy products that are tailored to your interests show up in social media feeds. Unfortunately, with so many online sellers, it is easy to fall victim to purchasing illegal counterfeits online. The number of false listings spiked during the pandemic, as counterfeiters took advantage of shoppers quarantined at home. Amazon alone said that last year they blocked more than 10 billion suspected phony listings and destroyed 2 million counterfeit products sent to their warehouses before they could be sold. We hope this video draws attention to the dangers of fake online products—from cosmetics to medicine—and helps consumers think carefully when making online purchases.
