Safety and Quality Issues of Counterfeit Lithium-Ion Cells

ESRI

Counterfeit lithium-ion cells often lack internal protective devices and are made with poor-quality materials. When subjected to off-nominal conditions, they can experience high temperature, electrolyte leakage, thermal runaway, and fire. Authentic lithium-ion cells perform as expected. To identify and avoid counterfeit cells, look for the following: missing or incorrect safety markings, poor build quality, and a lower price than the market average.
